Autism Accreditation

Over the last couple of years, Oakdale School has been working towards achieving the National Autistic Society’s Autism Accreditation Award, as a means of reflecting and celebrating Oakdale School’s excellent practice and provision for children with an autistic spectrum condition.

In April 2017 we successfully achieved Autism Accreditation Status.

Autism Accreditation is a development programme for schools and services that support children or adults with autism.  The programme sets standards of good practice which services, committed to continually improving the support they provide, aim to meet.  Achievement of the Autism Accreditation award indicates that the accredited service provides high quality, autism-specific care and support.

February 2020 Update

In February 2020, our provision and practice is going to be reviewed once more, in order to ensure that we continue to meet the high standards outlined by the National Autistic Society (NAS) to maintain our accredited status.

Over the last 3 years, we have continued to develop our ASC provision throughout the school. In particular, we have been focusing upon the development of both our sensory processing provision and environment as well as staff knowledge and understanding of this area of need, which can impact on so many of our pupils with ASC.

We have been working closely with an Occupational Therapist to ensure that appropriate pieces of equipment are available, and we have ‘transformed’ a space within school into a specific sensory processing room, which all pupils across school are able to access as and when necessary to support with their sensory processing and regulation needs.

Referral and support systems are also now in place within school, in order for staff to request support and guidance from our Assistant Head Teachers in ensuring that the sensory processing needs of all pupils are being consistently met.

We are very excited to share all of our developments and initiatives with the review team in February, and look forward to welcoming the NAS back to Oakdale School.
